I started Fayres Fair with my partner in 2006 to offer a service for people who want to send gifts to their friends and family in the UK and who are also concerned about where and how the gifts are produced. We also felt that a lot of the gifts being offered by mail order tended to be chocolates, food or flowers. We wanted to offer a wider choice and enable people to make up their own selections – like you would if you chose a variety of gifts to make up a present. You can pay on line for this bespoke service. If we care about the products we buy, we face difficult choices. Should we choose organic or fair trade? Should you support small UK businesses and thus avoid the emissions involved in transportation? At Fayres Fair we have tried to address these dilemmas by offering a choice of products - some are organic, others are made by small UK businesses and others are certified as Fair Trade. We have taken a lot of time sourcing the products we offer. We have also been disappointed in the past that when I have ordered from ‘ethical’ companies and the packaging has let them down. Packaging is a huge issue for many people. We use Fair Trade tissue paper and gift bags - which are also very beautiful - and shredded paper for packing. We get the posting boxes made locally in North Shropshire from 75% recycled cardboard. We are always pleased to receive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
